On April 17, 2024, the Effective Black Parents family dinner hosted by Driven to Reach Excellence & Academic Achievement for Males (DREAAM) provided an opportunity for community members to engage with important issues related to safety and justice. The event saw the participation of staff from the Equity and Engagement Department, including Justice Victim Advocate, Eric Toga, and Impact Outreach Worker, Kellen Brown.
During the dinner, Eric and Kellen took the stage to share insights into their roles within the Community Safety and Justice division. They also shed light on the Gun Violence Reduction Blueprint, emphasizing its aim to address the root causes of community violence. Moreover, they discussed how the Blueprint can help residents access valuable resources within the City of Champaign.
The event was organized by Tracy Dace, who extended the invitation to the Equity and Engagement Department staff. Multiple families and volunteers attended the dinner, actively participating by asking questions and engaging in discussions surrounding community safety and justice.
